I opened my jewelry store in Lübeck!
We were truly lucky. To this day, I still can't believe we found such a wonderful shop for Mong. But it wasn't always this way. Maybe you don't know, but before I founded Mong, my mother and I ran a small shop called "Artisans," just a few blocks away from our current one. We imported handmade textiles and ceramics from indigenous peoples in Asia to Lübeck. After four years, my mother and I made our own jewelry, expanding our product range. Nevertheless, we could barely pay the rent each month, and after almost seven years, we were forced to close the shop. It was hard for us to let go and admit there was nothing more we could do.

So we terminated our lease, used the last few months we had left to sell everything we owned, and handed over the keys on February 1, 2024. We decided to pursue new dreams and learn from our experiences. Maybe we'd try our luck again in a year or two, we told ourselves. Shortly thereafter, our paths diverged: While my mother continued working on her own jewelry brand, Kaito , I founded Mong Studio from my home.

I wasn't ready to give up on my dream of creating my own jewelry, but after closing our business, self-employment was uncertain in many ways, and I felt a lot of fear and anxiety. For example, I desperately needed a workspace to create my jewelry, but opportunities were limited. I also wondered how I would attract new customers, as I only had fifty online followers. And how would I pay my rent next month and the additional ongoing operating costs? Many days I doubted my plan and wondered if it was wise to continue. But Warren Buffett once said that the most important thing is to survive in order to eventually win (or something like that...). In any case, I stubbornly clung to those words for the past seven years. But what would I do now?
A few weeks later, when I was convinced it was better to abandon my plan, my mother suddenly called me. It seemed urgent. She told me that she had seen an online ad for a business that was looking for a new tenant. The shop was considerably smaller, but the location was much better, and the rent was quite affordable. The universe was giving me a second chance, I thought. So I quickly closed my laptop, left everything behind, and rushed out of my house to introduce myself in person. Two days later, I received a call from the owner. Et voilà, a week later we moved in.

A large number of people attended our grand opening. Among them were both new faces who curiously paused in front of our shop window and wanted to learn more about our work, as well as familiar faces who immediately recognized us and were excited about our new beginning. We were both surprised and delighted by the overwhelmingly positive feedback. We hope for many more years at Fleischhauerstraße 48. And if you haven't stopped by yet, this is your little reminder to visit us sometime :) So, see you soon!
