Connecting worlds through art
I found my voice between two worlds. My name is Linh An Tran, a German-Vietnamese designer born in 1998 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. At the age of six, my mother and I moved to Germany to start a new life—a journey that would shape my perspective and ultimately inspire my artistic vision.
During my childhood in Germany, I absorbed the language, culture, and way of life. Yet, a parallel universe always existed in my subconscious—a dream world of memories of Cambodia and Vietnam that constantly resurfaced. Every moment in my new homeland was accompanied by thoughts of Asia, of the colors, textures, and feelings of my early childhood.

My childhood in Germany was privileged in many ways and offered me opportunities I might never have had otherwise. However, as one of the few people of Asian background in my community, I often encountered challenges that unsettled me. For years, my circle of friends didn't include anyone with similar experiences, so I had no one to share these perspectives with. Deep down, I often felt isolated and dreamed of returning to Asia—the only place that ever truly felt like home.

Reality is rigid, but art offers freedom.
Through creative work, I discovered that I could manifest what I longed for: a sense of belonging, dreams from the past that became tangible, and worlds that were imagined into reality. This realization became the foundation of my artistic philosophy.
After completing my graphic design studies at the age of 24, I decided to return to Asia to reconnect with my roots and find myself. During this pivotal time, I fell in love with Asian art traditions, especially jewelry making. At a goldsmithing school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, I learned the basics of this fascinating craft, which laid the foundation for my life's work.
When I returned to Germany in 2023, the wealth of impressions and inspiration I had gathered culminated in the founding of Mong. Since then, I have worked passionately every day to create unique pieces that tell my life story and the stories of the people I have met. Since 2024, I have been studying jewelry design in Rome, expanding my craft while maintaining a connection to my roots.
Between two worlds:
The search for belonging
My journey taught me that many people who moved to other countries at a young age share similar experiences. Even though they speak the language, understand the culture, and have spent most of their lives in their second homeland, something inside doesn't quite feel complete. They search for a missing piece, often returning to their roots only to discover they don't quite belong there either—an unexpected realization that ultimately leads to the understanding that belonging must be found within oneself.
Every piece I create serves as a bridge—a physical manifestation of the space between cultures, memories, and identities. My jewelry becomes an extension of the wearer, something to carry everywhere, a tangible connection to dreams and inner truths. It gives voice to those who exist between worlds, who understand the complexity of cultural identity and the search for authentic self-expression.
Conscious luxury:
Jewelry with meaning and mission
My commitment to ethical creation is unwavering. I use only recycled or sustainably sourced precious metals and materials and ensure that everyone involved in the production process—from miners to stone cutters to artisans—receives fair compensation. Working closely with experienced German goldsmiths with over a decade of expertise, I create pieces that are not only beautiful but also conscientiously crafted.
What's the point of another jewelry brand if it doesn't change the world for the better? This question drives me to donate 1% of profits to carefully vetted environmental organizations like Coral Gardeners, supporting causes that truly make a difference.
Mong is more than jewelry—it's a statement about who we are and who we can become. It's luxury in the truest sense of the word: thoughtfully designed, ethically produced, and imbued with meaning that goes beyond mere jewelry. Each piece invites you to immerse yourself in another reality, connect with your dreams, and find beauty in your own story of belonging.
